and surrounding villages

Rutland is England's smallest county, and one of its best built. Its villages are mostly honey-coloured limestone, many of them conservation areas, with a high share of listed houses, farmhouses and churches.
This is where we specialise. Repairs here are judged by neighbours, conservation officers and the building itself, so the stone, the lime and the tooling all have to match.
Most Rutland villages are built of local limestone, often under Collyweston stone slate roofs. Towards the Leicestershire border the stone changes, and you find ironstone villages with a warmer, browner colour.
Old Rutland walls were built with lime, and they need lime to keep breathing. Hard cement repointing is one of the most common problems we are asked to put right.

Stamford sits just over the border, a few miles from our base in Bourne.
Limestone and ironstone villages run across the border.

Lime repointing
The right lime mix keeps soft limestone walls dry and sound.
