Heritage Masonry in Northamptonshire

Completed ironstone barn conversion with new windows

Northamptonshire has two characters in stone. There are the rich, orange-brown ironstone villages, and there are fine limestone market towns such as Oundle.

Most of what we do here is ironstone walling, stone repairs and estate walls, all repaired in the materials they were first built with.

Local stone, local character

Ironstone is beautiful and soft. It weathers and spalls when it's trapped behind cement, so repairs need matched stone and a lime mortar that lets moisture out.

The county's limestone market towns, such as Oundle, call for the same care: matched stone, the right tooling and lime that suits the wall.

Questions

Things people ask us

Yes. We work across Northamptonshire, from the Rutland border at Collyweston and King's Cliffe down to towns such as Kettering and Towcester.

Ironstone is a soft stone, and it often spalls where hard cement mortar traps moisture in the wall. Repointing in lime and indenting the worst stones usually stops it getting worse.

Yes. We work in Oundle and across the county, including Kettering, Corby, King's Cliffe, Collyweston, Thrapston and Towcester.
