Structural Wall Repairs & Rebuilds

Finished river retaining wall below a stone house and terrace

Collapsing, bulging or cracked walls taken down and rebuilt properly, reusing the original stone wherever we can so the repair sits with the rest of the wall.

Collapsed and failing walls rebuilt

Unsafe or failed sections are taken down carefully, with sound stone set aside for reuse. We rebuild from a sound base and tooth the new work into the wall so the repair belongs to the original.

What's involved

  • Record the failed section
  • Save sound stone for reuse
  • Rebuild in matched stone and mortar

Retaining walls

Retaining walls have to hold back the ground behind them. We look at the base, wall thickness and drainage before rebuilding, reusing original stone wherever it is sound.

What's involved

  • Assess the wall and ground behind it
  • Agree the base and drainage
  • Rebuild to suit the retained ground

Boundary and estate walls

Garden boundaries and estate walls rebuilt in the original stone and coursing wherever possible. Through-stones and well-set copings help the rebuilt length sit securely with the rest.

What's involved

  • Salvage and sort the original stone
  • Rebuild to the existing coursing
  • Reset copings and finish the joints

Crack stitching and stabilisation

We look at the pattern of movement before deciding how to repair a cracked wall. Stitching, resetting displaced stones and repointing are agreed to suit the wall and the cause of the damage.

What's involved

  • Understand the cause of movement
  • Agree the repair method
  • Stitch and stabilise where appropriate

Before work starts

We record the wall, its stone and its coursing before anything is taken down. The repair method is agreed before work starts, including any checks needed with the local authority.

What's involved

  • Record the wall and its condition
  • Agree the repair method

Questions

Things people ask us

Yes, wherever it is sound. We set it aside as the wall is taken down and use it in the rebuild, sourcing matching stone only where needed.

Check with your local authority before work starts if the wall is listed or is in a conservation area. The requirements depend on the wall and the work proposed.
